What is RSS feed?

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a type of web feed format used to get
frequently updated website content to users who ask for it.

RSS readers are programs used to watch for updated content in one or more web feeds.

To set up an RSS feed

first you will need to set up an RSS news reader such as SharpReader (free download), My Yahoo!, or Google Reader. Other readers can be found at http://blogspace.com/rss/readers.

For new learning objects from Wisc-online look for the RSS/XML buttons at the top of this page or on the home page.

Those with a Windows-based RSS news reader such as SharpReader can simply drag the orange XML icon to the reader.

Those with a Web-based RSS news reader should right click the orange XML icon. Select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Location" and paste it into the appropriate field on the RSS set-up page.

Example:

  • Log into a Yahoo account.
  • On the My Yahoo! main page, click Add Content.
  • On the Add Content page, click the Add RSS by URL.
  • On the Add RSS by URL page, paste the URL into the URL field.
