Which rule is used when constructing Lewis Dot structure? Are there any exception to this rule? Construct Lewis Dot structures of four compounds different from the once in tutorial
8 valence electrons
Count the amount of valence electrons. The dots can only be paired with each other if there are 4 dots on each side. helium
How many valence electrons the element has. You know this by the group number. Noble gases in group 8 either have 2 or 8 valence electrons.
Find the total amount of valence electrons, place the electrons around each of the atoms until it has a total of 8 electrons, if there are not enough electrons use double and triple bonds.
GREAT!! Learned more going through this then in my classroom for 2 days, it actually made sense!Posted by Maggie S on 1/8/2012 10:16:14 PM Reply
Thank you! very easy to understand.. I my self am a student... it helped me so much! Great site!!Posted by Randy Rivas on 10/20/2011 9:31:32 PM Reply
Thank you so much!!! This helped a lot!!! I was really stuggling with covalent bonding and lewis dot diagrams, but after Wisc-online helped me out, i feel like i am ready to accomplish anything!!! hahah lol Hopefully i can pursue my dream of being a professional chemist. Once again, Thank you so much <3 :) - Lynsey GarfinkelPosted by Lynsey Garfinkel on 11/6/2013 12:49:00 PM Reply
