Why is it important to select the most appropriate injection site for each patient?

Palpate lower edge of acromion process (notch at the base of shoulder). The injection site is about 3 finger widths (3-5 cm) below this point

Divide the thigh into thirds. The injection site is the outer middle third of the thigh

Position patient on side. Place palm over greater trochanter with thumb towards groin, index finger toward anterosuperior iliac spine. Injection site is in the "V" between the index and middle fingers

Pinch up the fatty tissue in selected site, insert needle at 45 degrees, inject into the tissue (avoiding muscle)

Patient sitting with head slightly back. Insert tip of sprayer into nostril and administer 1/2 dose into each nostril

Condition of nasal mucosa, patency of nares, respiratory effort. Patient should breathe normally. Do not administer if patient cannot blow their nose.
