Learners examine how language can interfere with clear communication. They select examples of ambiguity, assuring expressions, doublespeak euphemisms, jargon, emotive content, false implications, meaningless comparisons, and vagueness. In an interactive exercise, learners identify ways to overcome these barriers.
Students will be asked to complete this exercise using their knowledge of synonyms. The questions have been scaffolded to allow the students to start at an easy word recognition level, then they will have to use context clues to answer some of the questions. The game is based on a passage that was read in the class.
