Everyone Knows How to Use a Ruler, Right?
Students review the best practices for using a ruler and answer five basic questions.
Students view a video that shows the correct methods for starting a GTAW weld pool and adding filler. It focuses on the two problems that many students have – adding filler too soon and angling the torch so that the filler melts prematurely on the filler rod. Note: This activity is 3.6 mb.

The information is great. It will help build the basics behind measurement techniques. After all, everyone knows how to use a ruler...dont they?Posted by William Jordan on 5/26/2005 12:00:00 AM Reply
Great intro. The only thing I would edit is the forcing of an estimate to the nearest gradation/division. The example given where the item falls short of the 3/8 marking, but the measurement is supposed to be quoted as 3/8 is not what I would teach my students to do. I think it best that the students estimate in between the gradations.Posted by Jeff Funkhouser on 8/10/2007 12:00:00 AM Reply
